June 14, 2024 — The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU) presented an Honorary Fellowship to renowned patent attorney Michael Cypers on June 3rd during the 87th Board of Governors Meeting in Jerusalem. 

Mr. Cypers has practiced corporate law and litigation nationally for more than 40 years. He serves as a partner at the Los Angeles-based law firm Glaser Weil Fink Howard Jordan & Shapiro LLP, where he focuses on complex financial cases. A former adjunct professor at Boalt Hall School of Law (UC Berkeley), he has also generously shared his professional talents with students at the Hebrew University’s Faculty of Law as a guest lecturer. 

Mr. Cypers and his wife, Jackie Tavelman, have been dedicated supporters of American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU) since 2006. He has served on the Western Region Board of Directors and the AFHU National Board of Directors. In 2016, Michael and Jackie participated in AFHU’s National Mission to Israel, where they were honored with a Wall of Life ceremony.

Hebrew University President Prof. Asher Cohen presented the Fellowship to Michael Cypers “in recognition of his leadership within the American Friends of the Hebrew University, with profound thanks for his dedication to advancing political science research, garnering significant support for advanced graduate studies in the field; in appreciation for his and Jackie’s long and meaningful relationship with the Hebrew University, which was celebrated with their inscription on the Wall of Founders and Wall of Life; and with gratitude for his contributions to the University’s Faculty of Law through his teaching.”

Mr. Cypers earned a J.D. and an A.B. in History from the University of California, Berkeley.
