Ethan Sobol

Dr. Ethan Sobol is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist, and vitreoretinal surgeon at The Retina Group of Washington. His clinical focus includes treating adult and pediatric patients’ medical and surgical retinal conditions.

Ethan graduated with an undergraduate degree in economics and physics from Emory University in Atlanta. He earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he graduated with a Distinction in Clinical Investigation and was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. His training continued with a Transitional Year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Sobol then completed a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine.

Ethan has had many meaningful volunteer experiences, including working with orphans in Jerusalem, spending a summer working in HIV clinics in Nairobi, Kenya, and working as a volunteer doctor in New York City during the height of the COVID pandemic. Ethan’s involvement with his community extends beyond medicine.  He actively participates in the DC Minyan and loves coordinating Shabbat clusters and dinners through the JCC.

Ethan looks forward to participating in the LEAD program: “I hope to meet other like-minded individuals who are passionate about their Jewish identity and are proud to support Israel. I also hope to set the groundwork for future personal and professional partnerships with Hebrew University. Ultimately, my goal is to be able to contribute something meaningful to the institution, and I anticipate this being the start of a lifelong connection that will help me support Israel and the university and serve as an advocate to help others do so as well.”
