SEEKING JUSTICE
FOR THE VULNERABLE

ADVOCATES FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
Promoting justice for society’s most vulnerable groups and individuals.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s (HU) Clinical Legal Education Center (CLEC) is a leader in providing hands-on legal action for the benefit of underprivileged populations. Its mission is to deepen the education of law students by exposing them to the practical realities of law “on the ground” while also developing their understanding of how that law impacts the most marginalized and vulnerable in Israel.

Few would argue that even within the world’s most resilient representative democracies, laws can be applied unevenly. The CLEC’s mission is to realign this disparity and bring justice to all within society.

To achieve this ambitious aim, CLEC’s activities are based on a two-fold approach:

Serve the Disadvantaged

The Center offers the highest quality legal aid to a wide range of disadvantaged individuals and groups.

Mentor and Engage
The Center actively engages law students in top-notch applied clinical and practical experience, while making sure they are mentored and guided by clinical attorneys who are experts in their fields.

This substantial investment in students at HU’s Faculty of Law is a proven success. After graduation, most students remain committed to the idea of social responsibility as an integral part of the legal profession. We believe this makes them better, more empathetic lawyers.

Real-world impact
From providing legal representation for clients in need to advancing policy change and legal reform, HU’s CLEC continues to advance social justice.

Over the years, student participants have helped thousands of families, individuals, and groups to exercise, defend and realize their rights. To help American Friends of the Hebrew University support crucial initiatives at Hebrew University like the CLEC, please consider donating today.
